DIY Wednesday: Feed your Guests

Whoah it has been a while. I wish I could say that it was for a really great reason but honestly I've just been very busy- some exciting news that I'll tell you about in my next post. For this DIY Wed( yes I know its Thurs) I thought I'd inspire you with some ideas for feeding your guests! Here you go:

If you are not having a bar or just want some cute ways to present non-alchoholic beverages try a self-serve lemonade stand, this would be cute with a "tip the bride & groom" jar that goes toward your honeymoon! Have the groomsmen( or a friend) build a small stand and paint a sign with your beverages.
Serve your punch in an apothecary jar instead of a punch bowl. I LOVE these chalkboard nametags! Make your own with this spray chalkboard paint by painting painters tape and tearing it into strips for each glass. Then leave chalk near the drinks for guests to write their name.
For those of you who dont want a traditional cake or dont like cake at all(I don't) try a cookies stand or a different kind of treat that you both like. I think this would be adorable with bottles of milk(soy, almond, rice, and cows) on ice in pails so it would be a "cookies & milk" stand! A brownies stand would be great too! Figure out what you like and grab some friends to help you stack some hay bales, suitcases, or boxes and then make a simple sign out of 2x4's and some white paint then lay an old window across to hold the treats display. Simple. Delicious.
Dont like oreos? Have your mom or another baker make you some homemade cookies to stack like a cake, all you need is a cake stand and a friend with a steady hand. So easy!
enjoy! get creative!

DIY Wednesday: Receipt paper background

I love a good backdrop. This DIY Wednesday so easy and it has such a dramatic effect!
 Dont you love those?
1. Take rolls of receipt paper( this couple chose a light pink color) tear, loop, and hang them at different heights. Attach to the ceiling of your venue with tape, fishing line, or ribbon.

*Another alternative, if you want it to be moveable, would be to attach the strips to a wooden frame with mesh stretched across it and then hang it with fishing line.*

DIY Wednesday: Dress Hanger

This DIY idea came from a blog I saw on photopink that talked about how they love not trying to hide the hanger in the bride's infamous dress picture. In fact, they love making the hanger a part of the imagery. So I conjured up some cute hanger ideas and then put together a simple DIY for you brides who love your details.
Enjoy! Get creative!
xo

Supplies:
1. Scissors,
2. Wooden Hanger (or other)
3. Ribbon or strips of fabric ( I chose vintage scraps of fabric I had lying around)

                                            Directions:
1. Take the hanger and tie a knot with your ribbon or fabric strips at one end of the bottom of the hanger.
2. Wrap the fabric or ribbon around starting at the knot you created until you have covered all except for the metal hook.
3. Tie a knot with the remaining strip of fabric or ribbon, cut it and tuck the end under the wrapped pieces so it doesn't show.
4. Enjoy your gorgeous new dress statement.

I also thought it would be cute to make a name tag like MRS. or YOUR NAME by using a piece of your stationary with it printed or written, punching holes in the top corners and hanging with the same ribbon so it hangs on the "inside" of the hanger. There are so many options here! Use that gorgeous head of yours and get creative!

Yellow & Gray Wedding Day

I love colorful weddings that are mixed with neutral colors! Its such a great balance. This Yellow and Gray wedding by Kelly & Chris is such a great example of well blended, laid back, and stylish elements. Take a look at all the simple and cute DIY ideas involved!

These paper cones are filled with pom poms to throw when the B&G leave- it is a brilliant way to keep it simple and add a cute element to the chairs

The balloons in the pool is such a money savvy way to brighten up a poolside reception! Get a bag of them at your local party store and have the groomsmen blow them up on set up day.

Im LOVING the little planted pots as party favors- great idea for this theme! Buy them here or in bulk and decorate the planters yourself- with your bridesmaids help of course! :)

Note the twine that wraps the menus and napkins together and the mums as centerpieces . SO easy, cheap, and so adorable! Find those white vases here .

Silver numbers serves a dual function as table numbers and a rustic centerpiece addition.

I'm always a fan of these paper flowers. They look good in any venue and you can pick colored ones or all white !

The dessert bar reminds me of our wedding but they added candy too which is great for another party favor and if kids come!

My mouth is watering at these adorable cupcake treats. Buy a cardboard stand on etsy or make your own cupcake stand instead. It'll save you money and its a fun project!

Recession Special

In Hollywood today, nine lucky couples will be tying the knot...At the 99 cent only store! The store's ad features a beautiful bride dressed in an incredible dress made entirely from things available at the store, for 99 cents! Kathy Jacobs created this amazing gown masterpiece above using t-shirts, embroidered table runners and silk flowers. Brilliant! Economically friendly and fabulous...what's not to love? I don't recommend this project unless you have a particularly stylish and savvy DIY friend to call on but I DO recommend finding your own clever ways to save BIG! Go ahead visit your local $1 store, I won't judge you.

Once Wed

As a bride or bride to be there is a definite need for a good blog to obsess over, and the fact that this one features once worn dresses that bride's can sell and buy is reason enough to visit the site, but beyond that, oncewed.com also features some amazing inspiration weddings, photography, vendor guides, and the best DIY projects I've seen in wedding blogland. Just go ahead and add it to your favorites.

Just Do It!

I have to admit that I borrowed these DIY projects from www.oncewed.com, which I will feature next because they are well worth your time. With all the rustic and vintage inspired weddings going on I thought I'd feature a couple cute DIY projects that I love, the best thing about these two projects is that they are both extremely affordable and easy to do so put that bridal party to work!

Project #1 Rustic Cake Stand Centerpiece

What You’ll Need:
A Cross-Cut Wood Plaque (round or oval)
A Cross-Section of a Tree Limb (Make sure the top and bottom are parallel)
Titebond Ultimate Wood Glue (or a similar extra strong wood glue)
A Large Wood Clamp

Instructions:

Cross-cut wood plaques can be found in your local craft store or online at Hofcraft. The come in a variety of sizes ranging from 5 inches to 12 inches in diameter. They are usually found in the section with the wood-burning kits and other wood crafts. They are clean, sanded and ready to use.

1. Take your tree limb section and wipe the cut surface clean. Put a generous amount of extra strong wood glue on the surface. (see figure 1)

2. Place the limb section in the center of the back side your wood plaque and press down firmly. Wipe away any excess glue with a clean, damp cloth. (see figure 2)

3. Place the two joined pieces in a wood clamp and let dry for at least one hour. If you don’t have a wood clamp, you can stack a few heavy books on top of your pedestal until it’s dry. (see figure 3)

4. Use your pedestals to display cakes and desserts (see figure 4) or use as a base for a centerpiece. If you want to place food directly on the wood surface, coat it first with a food-safe wood sealer. If you would like to keep the wood it’s natural color, place a piece of parchment paper beneath your cake or dessert.

Project #2 Birdcage Veil

Materials & Tools

-4×4 Square of felt

-1/2 yd of 9 or 8” wide Russian veiling

-Hat combs (optional, bobby pins may substitute)

-Fabric glue

-Good luck charm

-3 silk or fabric flowers, source: craft store, tinseltrading.com

-8 filler flowers, millinery or small silk flowers work well

-Needle & thread

-Scissors

-Straight pins

-Ruler/ measuring tape

Instructions

Step 1-Cut heart from felt using template or freehand

Step 2-Cut veiling to 14” piece, if you want a fuller veil add an inch or two, demonstrate fullness by gathering the fabric in one hand. When cutting, be sure to cut just below the “knots”

Step 3-With needle and thread make a continuous running stitch starting with a cut edge, then work needle along one finished edge and thru the other cut edge. Leaving opposite finished edge open. Be sure to catch each stitch through the “knots” of the veiling.

Step 4- Gather to fit on felt heart, then tack down by stitching with needle and thread. At this point play with veiling and placement using a model head or in the mirror. If using combs, attach now to opposite side of heart that veil is attached to.

Steps 5 & 6-Pin flowers to heart, on top of veiling to figure out best placement, then tack down with needle and thread or glue into place.
